Ascent Learn — Refund Policy
Effective / last updated: September 2026 · Version: 1.3
This policy explains when and how refunds work for Ascent Learn courses. It forms part of, and should be read with, our Terms & Conditions. It reflects our commitment to fair dealing and to your consumer rights under the Nigeria FCCPA 2018 and applicable law in your country.
Provider: Ascent Tech Hub Africa Nig. Ltd. (trading as Ascent Learn), RC 7983215, Plot 12, Oladele Kadiri Close, off Nob-Oluwa Street, Ogba-Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria. Refund requests: admission@ascentlearn.academy · +234 811 870 9100.
In one line: because we commit instructors, venue, and materials ahead of every cohort, student-initiated refunds carry a deduction — a full refund is given only when Ascent Learn cancels a course. Please choose carefully before you enrol; a transfer is almost always available.
1. Application fee & deposit
- Application fee: a one-time application/registration fee of ₦15,000 is payable when you apply. It covers admissions processing. It is separate from, and not credited against, your course fee. It is not refunded if you withdraw or are not admitted — but it is refunded in full if Ascent Learn cancels or postpones a cohort (Section 3). If the reason you are not starting is ours, you are not out of pocket for anything.
- Deposit (to reserve a seat): a seat is reserved with a deposit of ₦50,000. The deposit is non-refundable but transferable — to another intake, another course of equal value, or another person — once, within 6 months. This lets us commit instructors and hold your place.
2. If you withdraw before a course starts (charges apply)
We commit costs ahead of time, so student-initiated withdrawals are not fully refunded:
- 7 or more days before the start date: refund of fees paid minus the ₦50,000 deposit and a 10% administrative charge on the course fee; or a full transfer (deposit included, no charge).
- Less than 7 days before the start date: the deposit is forfeited and a 25% administrative charge applies to the course fee; the balance is refundable, or transferable.
- The administrative charge reflects instructor, venue, and preparation costs already committed to your place.
- These deductions do not apply where Ascent Learn cancels (Section 3), and are subject to any mandatory right you have under your local consumer law.
3. If Ascent Learn cancels or postpones a cohort (full refund)
This is the only case of a 100% refund. If we cancel a cohort, or postpone it and the new date doesn't work for you, you choose:
- a full refund of everything you paid — course fee, deposit and application fee, with nothing deducted, or
- a full transfer to another intake or course. (Cohorts run only when they reach the minimum enrolment; if not met, we'll offer online delivery, the next intake, or this full refund.)
4. After a course starts
- Within the first 7 days / first 2 sessions: you may withdraw for a refund of 50% of the course fee (deposit and the administrative charge excluded), or a full transfer to another intake.
- After the first 7 days / 2 sessions: fees are non-refundable, because your place, materials, and instructor time are committed. In genuine hardship, we may offer a credit or transfer at our discretion.
5. Our satisfaction / completion guarantee (measured, not "just say so")
We stand behind our teaching — but in fairness to everyone, "I'm not satisfied" must be shown, not merely stated. Where a course is sold with our written guarantee, you may claim the remedy only if you meet ALL of these measurable conditions:
- Attendance: you attended at least 80% of the sessions held up to your claim.
- Work done: you submitted the first 3 assignments (or all assignments due so far).
- You used support: you asked questions and attended available office hours / lab sessions.
- You raised it early — in writing: you reported the concern to your instructor by the end of Week 3 (or the course's stated mid-point checkpoint), not at the end.
- Verified lack of progress: an instructor review of your graded work and attendance confirms that, despite doing the above, you are genuinely not progressing.
If all five are met: the primary remedy is a free re-take of the next cohort (so you actually gain the skill). A partial cash refund (up to 50% of the fee, deposit excluded) is offered only where a re-take is not feasible, at our assessment.
Not eligible: "I changed my mind," non-attendance, missing assignments, or a claim raised after the Week-3 checkpoint. The guarantee is not a promise of a job, income, or grade — it is a learning remedy for students who did the work.
Why measured? It protects genuine students and our other learners from bad-faith claims, and it keeps our guarantee real and affordable so we can keep offering it.
6. Instalment plans & missed payments
- Each instalment is due on schedule; a missed payment may pause access until resolved.
- Amounts paid follow the refund rules above (by course stage). Instalment plans do not change the deposit rule.
7. Scholarships, discounts & sponsored seats
- Scholarship/discounted seats are refundable only for the amount you personally paid (funded portions are not refundable to you).
- Sponsor-funded seats (employer/NGO/government): refunds, if any, are made to the sponsor per our agreement with them.
8. Non-refundable items
- The ₦15,000 application fee, where you withdraw or are not admitted. (It is refunded where we cancel — Section 3.)
- The deposit (transferable only) and any administrative charges.
- Materials, kits, or certificates already issued.
- Third-party costs already incurred for you (e.g. exam/certification fees).
9. How to request a refund
- Email admission@ascentlearn.academy (or WhatsApp +234 811 870 9100) with your name, course, cohort, and reason (and, for a guarantee claim, evidence of the five conditions above).
- We acknowledge within 15 business days and decide within 7 business days of acknowledging.
- Approved refunds are paid to your original payment method / bank account within 10–20 business days.
10. Chargebacks
Please contact us first — most issues are resolved quickly. Raising a bank chargeback without contacting us may delay resolution and, where a refund was not due, may affect your enrolment.
11. Your statutory rights
This policy does not limit any mandatory rights you have under the Nigeria FCCPA 2018 or the consumer-protection law of your country of residence. Where local law grants a stronger right, that right applies.
12. Governing law & contact
Governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Questions or requests: Ascent Learn — Refunds, Plot 12, Oladele Kadiri Close, off Nob-Oluwa Street, Ogba-Ikeja, Lagos · admission@ascentlearn.academy · +234 811 870 9100.
