Our story
A handful of school-leavers, a whiteboard, and no syllabus. Everything Ascent Learn is now grew out of that room — and out of a simple idea that took years to prove: skill beats a certificate.
A word from the founder
“My name is Abdulhad — the servant of Allah, who guides. That has always been one of my inspirations: that Allah could have made me someone to guide other people.
Ascent did not begin as a business. It began as a responsibility I felt I owed the young ones around me — to guide them, and to give back the one thing I had, which was what I knew.”
Durodola Abdulhad A.Founder & CEOHow we got here
It was slow, and some of it was hard. That is exactly why we teach the way we do.
I looked around my part of Lagos and saw young people just out of school with nowhere to go, and the pull of gambling and internet fraud everywhere. I started teaching what I knew — web development, small and by hand — as a way of giving back. About twelve of them came.
Not every family could afford a laptop, and without one a child could not continue. It came down to six or seven who stayed. All I had to give was my knowledge and my time, so I gave those.
After COVID, with people working beside me, I saw the thing this whole company is built on: students I had taught with no fixed syllabus — just from twenty-five years in the work — were genuinely competent. It was a hard year. When client projects ran into trouble during an ASUU strike, my former students, by then undergraduates, came back and helped me finish them. That was when I knew: train people well, and let them become the team.
I began building a real curriculum, convinced that what Africa needs is not more noise online but real skill, and people competent enough to teach it. What had started as giving back became a company — one that could reach far past a single room in Ikeja.
Ascent is the climb — from wherever you start to the top of what you can do. The mark is a ladder on a solid base: character, skill and the proof of it are the rungs, and you climb them one over the other. We do not hand you the top. We build the ladder, and we climb it beside you.
What we hold ourselves to
They are on this page so you can hold us to them — and so that when we fail one, you have something to point at.
Only about 12.6% of people finish a self-paced online course. Everything we charge for is aimed at that number — a schedule, a live instructor, a small group, and somebody who notices when you stop.
From a free two-hour masterclass to a six-month career track. Every rung is complete at its own level — a small course is a small course, not a sales funnel for a large one.
No "contact us for pricing", no negotiated rate for whoever pushes hardest. The listed price includes VAT and is what you pay in full. Paying in instalments costs 10% more, and you see that before you agree.
We make you junior-ready with work to show. Anyone guaranteeing employment is telling you something they cannot know.
Completion rates per course and per instructor, updated after every cohort. A figure that only ever looks good is not a figure.
How it actually works
What ₦250,000 buys that a free playlist never will.
Not a folder of videos. Classes run to a schedule, and someone reads what you hand in by hand — and notices in week nine when you go quiet.
No more than twenty to a cohort, so the instructor knows your name and your work, and a question does not wait in a queue of three hundred.
A mentor carries four or five learners across whatever they are enrolled on — so if you pause and rejoin the next intake, the person who knows your story is still there.
Engineering, Data, Creative, Business and AI — each course benchmarked to UK RQF levels 4–7, so "junior-ready" means something outside the room.
Our mission
One word carries it. Across Ascent Tech Hub Africa, it means equipping young people with real education, connecting them to opportunity, and helping them build businesses of their own — and giving businesses the tools to grow.
Ascent Learn is the training arm — where it starts. Alongside it, Ascent Tech Hub Africa is building the rest of the climb, one piece at a time: Ascent Finance, the books, invoicing and tax tools a small business cannot afford to get wrong; Ascent Creative, the brand and marketing that gets a business chosen; and, as they come, the arms that place our people into work and back the ones ready to build something of their own. Learn is the first rung. The rest is how a trained person keeps rising — and how the businesses they build keep growing.
Our aim is to reach and inspire ten million Africans by 2036 — the youth first, and the businesses they will go on to build. It is an aim, not a promise: the only numbers we will ever publish as fact are the ones we can show.
Who is behind it

The first people Ascent taught became the first people who taught for it. The instructors are named on the courses they run, with the work behind their names. Come and see the place — no appointment needed.
If you hire — our graduates come junior-ready, with real work to show.
If you teach or build — there is usually room for people good at the work.
If you back companies — the wider Ascent Tech Hub Africa is where that conversation belongs.
Start with a free masterclass, or look at what a full course covers and costs. Nothing here asks you to decide before you have seen it.
